Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel were inspired by the Russo-Byzantine icons from the 15th century and very early 16th centuries from the Deisis row of iconostasis by Andrei Rublev and Dionissius. Irina studied highlights in icons for many years and she believes that icon painting is a spiritual journey which is full of symbolic meaning. Highlights in icons represent a divine light and it is important to understand how it travels. It reflects a possibility of inner transformation. In Orthodox prayers faithful ask Our Lord: Give us the garments of light. These are not material garments, but an ability to progress spiritually.
